What is the holistic assessment?

Bedrock Grammar: the holistic assessment

Each of our grammar units contains a holistic assessment, which operates as a diagnostic test, showing areas your learners are confident in and areas they need to work on. This data can also support you with personalising grammar teaching in the classroom.

holistic assessment

Grammar Foundations

  • This 25-question test (covering all knowledge and skills in the curriculum) is taken at the beginning of all learning.
  • It covers word classes, capital letters, sentence basics, sentence structure one and sentence structure two.

Advanced Grammar

  • This 30-question test (covering all knowledge and skills in the curriculum) is taken at the beginning of all learning.
  • It covers word classes, punctuation, sentence structure and modifying sentences.
  • A summative assessment is then undertaken at the end of the learning to provide you with clear progress data and help you evaluate the impact of these curricula.

Where do I find this data?

  • You can easily export this data from your teacher dashboard. You can select the class you want to review and open the class reports tab.

  • Then, select the holistic assessment icon.

You will then be given a couple of options.

  • Here you can select which unit you would like to review, Grammar Foundations or Advanced Grammar. You can also filter by different groups of learners, such as SEN or EAL or leave it as default for all learners.
